Developing Bible Teachers – A New Initiative

Serve Your Local Church

Church leaders are responsible for empowering and encouraging individuals in their God-given skills and talents, serving the Lord together as He builds His church.

Bethel Evangelical Church (Bolton), in collaboration with church leaders from Radcliffe Road Baptist Church (Bury) and Peel Street Baptist Church (Accrington), has created the “Developing Bible Teachers” programme to equip people with the tools and knowledge needed to effectively share the message of the Bible.

We believe that a deep understanding of the Bible, combined with effective communication, can have a profound impact on the lives of others. If you want to improve your 1-2-1 encouragement, discipleship of others, lead home groups and bible studies or work towards pulpit ministry, this course will help you.

The course runs for 10 months, one Saturday each month (10 am-4:30 pm). Sessions will cover both the theory and practice of teaching the Bible in various contexts.

Goals of Developing Bible Teachers

To trust God's Word as Reliable

  • What This Means: The Bible is entirely trustworthy in all it affirms. God’s inspired, inerrant Word is preserved for His people across all generations. When we open Scripture, we can confidently hear God’s voice.
  • Why This Matters: When we share God’s Word, we need unshakable confidence that what we teach is not just human opinion but divine truth. This trust shapes how we approach Scripture, ensuring we interpret and teach it faithfully.

To Trust God's Word as Sufficient

  • What This Means: The Bible contains everything we need for life and godliness. It is enough to equip us for salvation, to grow in Christlikeness, and to minister effectively in the Church.
  • Why This Matters: Bible teachers may feel the pressure to add extra material – whether it’s trendy ideas or worldly wisdom – to make lessons “relevant” or engaging. Trusting the sufficiency of Scripture frees us from that pressure. It reminds us that God’s Word, empowered by His Spirit, is more than enough.

To Handle God's Word Correctly

  • What This Means: Bible teachers must approach Scripture carefully, interpreting it accurately and teaching it faithfully. This involves understanding the original context, discerning its meaning, and applying it appropriately to our lives and others.
  • Why This Matters: Mishandling Scripture – whether through misinterpretation, taking verses out of context, or adding personal opinions – can lead to misunderstanding and even harm in the lives of those we teach. Faithful teaching brings clarity, not confusion.

To Communicate God's Word Clearly

  • What This Means: Teaching is not just about understanding Scripture but also about presenting it in a way that is clear, engaging, and accessible to your audience. Good communication bridges the gap between God’s Word and the listener’s heart.
  • Why This Matters: Even the richest truths can be lost if poorly communicated. Clear teaching helps people grasp & apply the message of Scripture in their daily lives.

To Use God's Word Widely

  • What This Means: God’s Word is not just for personal study or teaching in formal settings – it is meant to permeate every area of our lives. This means applying Scripture in conversations, decisions, counselling, evangelism, Bible studies, and preaching. It’s about being people whose speech and actions are shaped by God’s truth.
  • Why This Matters: The Bible isn’t just a book to be studied – it’s the living and active Word of God (Heb 4:12). Using Scripture widely helps us connect the truths of God’s Word to real-life situations, equipping us to encourage others, share the gospel, and grow together in Christ.

The course is now open.
